Some notable landmarks in Frankfurt include the Römer, a historic building complex in the city center, and the Main Tower, an observation tower with panoramic views of the city.

Is Frankfurt safe to visit?
Yes, Frankfurt is generally a safe city for tourists. However, like any large city, petty crimes like pickpocketing can occur in touristy areas, so it’s essential to take care of your belongings, stay aware of your surroundings, stick into well-populated areas, and avoid poorly lit areas at night.
Where to stay in Frankfurt for the first time?
The best and safe areas to stay in Frankfurt for first-timers and tourists are Altstadt (Old Town), Innenstadt, Bahnhofsviertel, Sachsenhausen, Westend, and Bornheim/Ostend. While these areas are generally safe, it’s always a good idea to exercise standard safety precautions as you would in any major city.
Frankfurt City center which includes Altstadt (Old Town) and Innenstadt is a the most popular areas to stay in Frankfurt for first-timers and is generally safe. It’s well-lit, and there are plenty of tourists around.
Sachsenhausen is known for its lively nightlife, but it’s also a safe place to stay. It has a good mix of restaurants, bars, and shops. Westend is an upscale safe neighborhood with beautiful streets and parks.
Bockenheim is a budget-friendly neighborhood with a lively atmosphere and is generally considered safe. Ostend has undergone redevelopment in recent years and is now safer and more attractive for tourists. It’s home to the European Central Bank and Zoo Frankfurt.
While Frankfurt is a generally safe city, there are neighborhoods to exercise caution in. Areas like Gallus, especially around the train station, can have higher crime rates, parts of Bahnhofsviertel such as the red light district around Taunusstrasse may have issues related to drugs and prostitution.
It’s advisable to be vigilant in these areas, particularly at night. Also be cautious in the areas around Hauptbahnhof, Hauptwache, and Konstablerwache.
While it is recommended to stay in Frankfurt city center if you’re new to Frankfurt, but during my trip to Frankfurt, I stayed in the Ostend area where I can find several good value for money hotels such as the INNSiDE by Meliá Frankfurt Ostend. It has a good location, easy access to the U-Bahn/ tram for a link to the Old town. Also close to the Main River and the zoo.

- Budget ($): Motel One Frankfurt-Römer, 3-star accommodation located in the heart of Frankfurt am Main, within walking distance from Old Town, cathedral and the art museum. It has Good breakfast, private parking for those who drive, and a 24-hour reception.

Bahnhofsviertel is situated right next to Frankfurt’s main train station, Hauptbahnhof. This makes it extremely convenient for travelers arriving by train, as you’ll be just steps away from your accommodations.
Bahnhofsviertel is known for its diverse culinary scene. You’ll find an array of international restaurants, including Turkish, Asian, and Middle Eastern cuisines. It’s a great place to explore global flavors.
