Where to stay in Nuremberg for first time: 6 Safe areas

Finding where to stay in Nuremberg as a first-timer can be overwhelming. That’s why, in today’s article, I will help you to find safe places to stay in Nuremberg for first-time visitors.

I will share with you what I believe are the best and safe areas to stay in Nuremberg for first-timers and tourists, along with a helpful map and areas to avoid. I’ll also share where I stayed in Nuremberg and recommend some of the best hotels for visitors with various budgets.

Nuremberg is a city located in the state of Bavaria in southern Germany and is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, including the towering Nuremberg Castle.

The city played a significant role in the Holy Roman Empire and later became associated with the Nazi Party due to the Nuremberg Rallies and the post-World War II Nuremberg Trials, where Nazi officials were prosecuted for war crimes.

It’s also home to museums like the Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds, which provides insight into the city’s Nazi history, and the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, which showcases German art and culture throughout the ages.

The city is home to the famous Christmas market, one of the oldest in Germany, attracting visitors from around the world. It also boasts a strong reputation for its gingerbread, sausages, and beer, adding to its charm as a destination for both history buffs and food enthusiasts alike.

Is Nuremberg safe to visit?

Yes, Nuremberg is overall a safe place to visit. The city center is generally safe to stay in. But, as with any destination, it’s essential to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, keep your belongings secure, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas, particularly at night.

The area around the main train has a high concentration of accommodations and is generally safe to stay. It is a good base for easy access to the train to get to the airport and for day trips. There might be homeless people, but they are not dangerous. As long as you use common sense, you should be fine.

Where to stay in Nuremberg for the first time?

The best and safe areas to stay in Nuremberg for first-timers and tourists include Old Town, Marienvorstadt, Tafelhof, Gostenhof, and Südstadt. As always, regardless of where you stay, it’s essential to practice common sense safety measures to have an enjoyable trip.

Old Town (Altstadt) is overall the best location for first-time visitors. This area is the heart of Nuremberg and offers a charming atmosphere with its medieval architecture, cobblestone streets, and historical sites like the Nuremberg Castle. It’s very walkable and has plenty of restaurants, cafes, and shops.

Altstadt – Sankt Lorenz, the area around St. Lawrence Church is also a great base for easy access to the old town and the main train station. This area is also home to the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Handwerkerhof Nuremberg, and the Opera House.

If you want to stay close to the main train station, you can consider staying in Marienvorstadt, Tafelhof, and Gostenhof. Marienvorstadt and Tafelhof have a high concentration of accommodations for all budgets. Gostenhof has some great budget-friendly places to stay in.

Südstadt, a bit removed from the old town, but it is a convenient area for easy access to the train station and budget-friendly hotels. This area is also close to the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds.

During my trip to Nuremberg, I stayed at the mid-range Melter Hotel & Apartments. It has a great location between the old town and the train station. It is in the pedestrian mall area and is easy to walk to everything. They offered free laundry services, so I can wash and dry my own clothes.
