Shibuya is one of the most popular areas to stay in Tokyo, and this area provides a wide range of accommodation options. Finding where to stay in Shibuya as a first-timer can be a headache. That’s why, in today’s article, I will help you to find safe places to stay in Shibuya for first-time visitors.

I will share with you what I believe are the best and safest areas to stay in Shibuya for first-timers and tourists, along with a helpful map. I’ll also share where I stayed in Shibuya and recommend some of the best hotels for various budgets.

Shibuya is a popular and vibrant district in Tokyo, known for its energetic atmosphere, trendy fashion, and iconic landmarks. This area is home to the famous Shibuya  Station, Shibuya Crossing, and Hachiko Statue.

Shibuya Station is served by multiple railway lines, including the JR Yamanote Line. This makes it a crucial interchange point for commuters traveling within Tokyo and beyond.

The station is famous for Shibuya Crossing, a massive intersection that is perhaps the most famous pedestrian crossing in the world. It becomes a spectacle during rush hours when hundreds of people cross the street simultaneously.

Located near Shibuya Station, the Hachiko Statue is a popular meeting point. It commemorates Hachiko, a loyal dog who waited for his owner at the station every day, even after the owner passed away.

You can go shopping at Shibuya Center Street (Center Gai), a bustling street lined with numerous shops, cafes, and restaurants. Cat Street is another trendy shopping street that connects Shibuya and Harajuku, offering unique boutiques, cafes, and street art.

There are also lots of department stores in this area, including the modern Shibuya Hikarie, Tokyu Hands, and Shibuya 109 fashion department store that is a trendsetter for young Tokyoites.

Shibuya has an area known as Love Hotel Hill, where you can find numerous love hotels. These are short-stay hotels designed for couples seeking privacy.

Shibuya is known for its vibrant nightlife with a plethora of bars, nightclubs, and entertainment venues. The area around Dogenzaka comes alive after dark, attracting locals and tourists alike.

Shibuya’s location offers easy access to the Meiji Shrine. It’s a Shinto shrine surrounded by a forested area, offering a serene contrast to the urban landscape.

Is Shibuya safe to visit?

Yes, Shibuya, like most of Tokyo, is generally safe to visit and stay. However, common sense still applies. You should alway be aware of your surroundings and take care of your belongings, especially in crowded areas and touristy spots.

Where to stay in Shibuya for the first time?

The best and safest areas to stay in Shibuya for first-timers and tourists are Near Shibuya Station, Near Miyashita Park, Aoyama, and Ebisu. Accommodations can sell out quickly, so it’s recommended to book well in advance, especially during the peak season.

Staying near Shibuya Station and Miyashita Park are the best choices if you want to be in the middle of Shibuya with easy access to the transportation hub, major attractions, and a vibrant nightlife. These areas can be crowded and noisy due to its popularity and center locations.

Aoyama and Ebisu offer a more upscale and relaxed vibe, with convenient access to Shibuya and surrounding areas.

On one of my trips to Tokyo, I stayed at the popular all day place shibuya. The hotel was located in a prime location within easy access to the major train stations, shopping malls, and attractions. It was a good base to explore the city by public transportation. Room was compact but had all the basic facilities.
