Where to stay in Paris without a car: 9 Best areas

I love to explore places without a car, and on my website, I cover many topics for car-free travelers. In this article, we will visit Paris and help you find the best places to stay in Paris without a car.

I will share my recommendations for the top areas to stay in Paris without a car, along with a helpful map. I’ll also tell you where I stayed in Paris and suggest the best hotels for all budgets.

Paris, the capital and largest city of France, is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world, known for its history, art, fashion, and cuisine.

If you are asking “Is it easy to get around Paris without a car?” My answer is, “Yes, it is relatively easy to get around Paris without a car. Paris has an extensive and efficient public transportation system that makes it convenient to travel throughout the city.”

Driving a car in Paris can be challenging due to traffic congestion, limited parking, and the city’s layout. Additionally, Paris has implemented measures to reduce air pollution, such as low-emission zones and restrictions on older vehicles, which may affect your ability to drive in certain areas.

It is often more convenient and cost-effective to rely on public transportation, cycling, and walking when getting around Paris, as it allows you to avoid the hassle of parking and traffic while enjoying the city’s excellent public transport system.

The Paris Metro is one of the most convenient ways to travel around the city. It’s fast, efficient, and covers most of the city. There are 14 lines, and the trains run frequently. You can buy single tickets or multi-day passes, such as the Paris Visite card, which allows unlimited travel on public transportation within certain zones.

Paris also has an extensive tram/bus network that complements the Metro system. Buses are much slower but they are useful for reaching areas not directly accessible by the Metro.

RER (Réseau Express Régional) are suburban trains that connect Paris to its surrounding suburbs and airports. They are useful for traveling to destinations like Versailles Palace or Disneyland Paris.

You can get from Charles de Gaulle Airport to the center of Paris by taking Roissybus to Opéra Garnier or RER Train (Line B) to numerous central Paris stations including Châtelet-Les Halles, Gare du Nord, and Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame.

From Orly Airport, you can take the Orlyval light rail to Antony station and transfer to the RER B train to reach various stations in the city center. You can also take the Orlybus direct bus to Denfert-Rochereau station in the city center (20-30 minutes).

Paris has a bike-sharing system called Vélib’, which allows you to rent bicycles for short trips around the city.

Paris is a very walkable city, and many of its attractions are located relatively close to each other. Walking is an excellent way to explore the city and discover hidden gems.

Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber are readily available in Paris if you prefer more personalized transportation.

The Seine River runs through Paris, and there are boat services, like the Batobus, that allow you to see the city from a unique perspective and access certain sites.
