French Quarter is the best location for families who want to be in the heart of the action, enjoy street performances, and don’t mind a bustling atmosphere.
Central Business District (CBD) is located close to the French Quarter but quieter, with upscale hotels and dining options. It is the best area for families who want a more relaxed atmosphere while still being within walking distance of the French Quarter.
Warehouse/Arts District is next to the CBD and is an ideal base for families interested in art and culture, and a quieter environment. Marigny/Bywater offers a bohemian atmosphere, local art scene, and quirky charm.
Garden District/Uptown is known for its beautiful historic homes, tree-lined streets, and a relaxed atmosphere. It is less central but good access to streetcar lines. It is best suited for families who want a peaceful neighborhood with a suburban feel and don’t mind using public transportation.
During my trip to New Orleans, I stayed in the French Quarter area at the Quarter House. The hotel has a central location, easy access to major attractions. I was able to explore major attractions and popular restaurants and shops on foot and by using public transportation.
