I will share with you what I believe are the best and safe areas to stay in Dubai for first-timers and tourists, along with a helpful map and things to avoid. I’ll also share where I stayed in Dubai and recommend some of the best hotels for various budgets.

Dubai is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE), situated on the southeastern coast of the Persian Gulf. It’s known for its modern architecture, luxury shopping, vibrant nightlife scene, and dynamic cultural landscape.

The city is famous for landmarks like the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, and the Palm Jumeirah, an artificial archipelago in the shape of a palm tree!

Dubai is also home to extravagant shopping malls like the Dubai Mall and the Mall of the Emirates, as well as cultural attractions such as the Dubai Opera and the Dubai Museum.

In recent years, Dubai has become a major hub for business, finance, tourism, and trade in the Middle East. Its strategic location, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and favorable business environment have made it a magnet for international companies and expatriates seeking opportunities in the region. 

Is Dubai safe to visit?

Yes, Dubai is generally a safe place to visit. The city has a low violent crime rate, but like many cities, some risks like pickpocketing, drink spiking, sexual assaults, and terrorist can occur, so it is essential to practice normal safety precautions to ensure an enjoyable visit.

Dubai can get extremely hot, especially during the summer months. Drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and seek shade when necessary.

In general, Downtown Dubai is a great choice for those who want to be in the heart of the action and have easy access to shopping, dining, and entertainment options. This area is home to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and the Dubai Fountain. 

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) are bustling areas with easy access to the beach. This area is filled with luxury hotels, restaurants, cafes, and shopping centers. You can enjoy boat tours, beach clubs, and waterfront dining options while staying here.

Palm Jumeirah is the man-made island famous for its luxurious resorts, upscale villas, and stunning views of the Arabian Gulf. You can enjoy beachfront activities, water sports, and fine dining while staying in one of the island’s exclusive hotels.

During my trip to Dubai, I stayed at the Hotel Boulevard, Autograph Collection. It was a good value for money hotel in Downtown Dubai, an easy distance from iconic attractions like the Dubai Fountain, Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. Great base for sightseeing and shopping. The room was so cozy and beautiful.The breakfast buffet was excellent.

Downtown Dubai’s central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the city. It’s well-connected to the Dubai Metro and buses. Additionally, many tour operators offer guided excursions from Downtown Dubai to popular attractions like the Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and desert safari experiences.

Mid-range ($$): Ramada Downtown Dubai, 4-star hotel in the heart of downtown Dubai, next to Dubai Opera, offering views of the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain. It’s a short distance from Dubai Mall, Souk Al Bahar, and World Trade Centre. You can use the hotel’s free shuttle service to Jumeirah Beach, and the Metro. It features an outdoor pool, gym, very good breakfast, and children’s playgrounds.

Budget ($): Rove Downtown, 3-star good value for money hotel in the downtown area, close to the famous Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall. It has an outdoor swimming pool, free parking,  a 24/7 supermarket, airport transfer, and a sundeck. The hotel also has a free shuttle to the beaches.

The location is quite far from important tourist landmarks, but the hotel offers a scheduled free shuttle to Dubai Mall and the beach. 

Budget ($): ibis Styles Dubai Deira, 3-star hotel located in Deira district of Dubai, close to the Gold Souq, the heritage area, the airport, and Dubai Creek attractions. 5 mins walk to the metro station. It is in a lively neighborhood, a short walk to numerous good restaurants and cafes, and mini markets.
