However, it’s important to consider that the towns along the Amalfi Coast are built into the hillsides, resulting in steep streets and staircases. This can be difficult for families with strollers or young children who may struggle with walking long distances or climbing stairs.

The best areas to stay in Amalfi Coast for families with kids are Maiori, Minori, Amalfi town, Sorrento, Cetara Vietri sul Mare, Positano, Praiano, Furore, and Ravello.
For those with young children, I recommend staying in Maiori, Minori, Amalfi town, and Sorrento because they have relatively flat terrain compared to other towns in the region.
Each of these areas on the Amalfi Coast has its unique charm and appeal, catering to different preferences and interests. Consider your family’s specific needs and preferences when choosing the best area to stay during your visit.
During my trip to Amalfi Coast, I stayed at Alcione Residence. It has a prime location in the center of Positano, an easy distance from the beach, restaurants, bars, and shops. It was a 10 mins walk uphill from the port, and close to the bus station. They also have family rooms, the two-bedroom apartment – can accommodate up to 4 adults.

1. Maiori
Maiori is one of the best areas to stay in Amalfi Coast for families with young kids and toddlers because it has a long sandy beach and flatter streets which is ideal for families with strollers.
Maiori’s long sandy beach is perfect for children as Amalfi Coast does not have many spacious sandy beaches. You can find free public beach areas, as well as private beach clubs with loungers and sun umbrellas for rent.
The town features a lovely flat seafront promenade lined with palm trees, perfect for leisurely strolls with kids. Along the promenade, you’ll find cafes, restaurants, shops, and playgrounds for your little ones.
From the beach promenade, you can view the stunning Castello Mezzocapo and Norman Tower. Additionally, the main street of Maiori, Corso Reginna, is also flat, with a section of it pedestrian.
Maiori and its neighbor Minori are linked to each other by the path of lemons, offering stunning views of the ocean. No strollers on this path though.
While still retaining the charm of the Amalfi Coast, Maiori generally has a more relaxed and laid-back atmosphere compared to Amalfi or Positano. This can make it easier for families with young kids to navigate the town and enjoy a peaceful vacation.
Maiori has a wide range of family-friendly hotels and B&Bs. Accommodations here are also more affordable compared to the more popular Positano and Amalfi Town.

2. Minori

The town is also known for its Roman Villa, known as Villa Romana, which dates back to the 1st century AD. The villa features well-preserved frescoes and mosaics that provide a glimpse into the region’s ancient past. It’s a fascinating archaeological site to explore.
There is a small sandy beach, located close to the marina and harbor. There are some beach clubs with umbrellas and chairs for rent. There is a lovely children’s playground on the seafront.
The town is compact, and has some flat areas and car-free streets where young children can play safely. There is also a lovely baroque church of Santa Trofimena, and a historic path of lemons for families to explore.
Minori can be reached easily by taking ferries from Salerno, which is a 40 minute ride away. It can also be reached from Amalfi town by a 10 minute ferry ride.

3. Amalfi
Amalfi is one of the best areas to stay in Amalfi with family because it has a beautiful beach, interesting history, central location, and plenty of family-friendly amenities.
The town center is flatter compared to other towns in Amalfi Coast, making it a great base with small kids, but beware that many of the streets have narrow passages and steps can be difficult for strollers. You can leave the strollers at home and carry them instead.
Amalfi Town has a beautiful beach where your kids can play in the sand and swim in the clear waters. The Spiaggia Grande is a popular choice with family-friendly beach clubs.
You can visit the Amalfi Cathedral, a stunning church with beautiful architecture. The Museo della Carta (Paper Museum) is located in a former paper mill and provides an interesting educational experience for children.
Due to its popularity, Amalfi can be crowded, and higher prices compared to Maiori, but overall, it is one of the most child-friendly towns on the Amalfi Coast.

Sorrento is an excellent starting point for day trips to other popular destinations along the Amalfi Coast, such as Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. You can easily explore these picturesque towns and return to Sorrento in the evening.
The town has a range of amenities that cater to families, such as parks, playgrounds, and pedestrianized areas. You’ll find plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes suitable for all ages.
Sorrento has some lovely beaches. Marina Grande and Marina Piccola are two popular beaches in Sorrento that offer family-friendly facilities and services.

If you have older children, it can be a great base. To avoid walking up and down endless staircases, it is best to book a hotel in the lower part of town close to the beach and harbor.
