I will share with you what I believe are the best areas to stay in Singapore for families, along with a map. I’ll also share where I stayed in Singapore and recommend some of the best family-friendly hotels for various budgets.

Singapore is a sovereign city-state and island country in Southeast Asia. The country is known for being a global financial hub, with a highly developed and diverse economy. It is often praised for its cleanliness, safety, strict laws and regulations to maintain a clean and orderly environment.

Singapore has a diverse population that includes Chinese, Malay, Indian, and other ethnic groups. This diversity is reflected in its rich cultural heritage, including various festivals, traditions, and cuisines.

Singapore is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its modern architecture, diverse culinary scene, vibrant nightlife, and various attractions such as Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa Island, and the iconic Marina Bay Sands.

The country has an extensive public transportation system, well-maintained roads, and the Changi Airport, which is consistently ranked as one of the best airports globally.

Is Singapore a good place to visit with family?

Yes, absolutely. Singapore is often considered a great destination for family vacations. It offers a wide range of attractions and activities suitable for all age groups. 

Your family can visit numerous iconic landmarks and family-friendly attractions such as Universal Studios Singapore, Singapore Zoo, Jurong Bird Park, S.E.A. Aquarium, Gardens by the Bay, and Sentosa Island.

Your family can also enjoy a relaxing time in places like the Botanic Gardens or East Coast Park. Singapore is known as the City in a Garden due to its numerous parks and green spaces.

The best areas to stay in Singapore for families with kids are Marina Bay, Orchard Road, Sentosa Island, Chinatown, Bugis/Little India, and Singapore River. These areas offer plenty of family-friendly accommodations and activities for children of all ages.

Marina Bay is the best area for families who want a central location, proximity to iconic attractions, enjoy luxurious surroundings, and breathtaking views. This area is home to the Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, and the Singapore Flyer.

Orchard Road is a great base for families who want easy access to malls, restaurants, and entertainment options. This area also offers easy access to the family-friendly Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Sentosa Island is a resort island with beaches, child-friendly attractions such as Universal Studios Singapore and S.E.A. Aquarium. Best suited for families looking for a resort-like experience, with a mix of entertainment, relaxation, and beach activities.

Chinatown, Little India, and Bugis are great locations for families interested in exploring Singapore’s cultural heritage, trying local cuisine, and enjoying a bustling atmosphere.

Singapore River, particularly the areas around  Robertson Quay, Clarke Quay and Boat Quay, is better suited for families with older children or those looking for a vibrant nightlife scene.

During my trip to Singapore, I stayed at the lyf Funan Singapore. It was a great hotel in downtown Singapore, within walking distance/ short MRT ride from major sights, a great base for exploring the city. They are also family-friendly hotels with rooms for all families from 4 to 9 family members.

Let’s get into the details of the recommended areas to stay in Singapore, especially for families. I’ll provide you with some suggestions for the best places to stay in each area, catering to every budget.

6 Best areas to stay in Singapore with family:

1. Marina Bay

Marina Bay is a fantastic choice for a family holiday in Singapore. This area is home to Singapore’s iconic landmarks, including the Marina Bay Sands complex and Gardens by the Bay. These attractions offer stunning views of the city skyline and provide unique experiences for both adults and children.

Marina Bay Sands has a range of family-friendly activities and attractions, such as the Infinity Pool, the SkyPark Observation Deck, and the ArtScience Museum. Gardens by the Bay features the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome conservatories, as well as the outdoor Supertree Grove.

Your family can enjoy  leisurely walks or cycling along the picturesque waterfront promenade. You can also take a boat ride or enjoy a light show in the evenings.

Marina Bay offers a variety of dining options, from upscale restaurants to casual eateries. The nearby shopping malls, such as The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and Marina Square, provide excellent retail therapy.

It has a fantastic infinity pool, very good breakfast, and spacious family rooms with incredible views of the bay.

Mid-range ($$): Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay, good value for money 5-star family-friendly hotel centrally located on Marina Square, offering family rooms with stunning views of the Marina Bay and the city skyline. Easy access to City Hall MRT Station, The Esplanade, Singapore Flier and Suntec City Convention Center. It has an outdoor swimming pool, 3 restaurants, and a  24-hour fitness center.

Budget ($): The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, great 5-star child-friendly hotel conveniently located on Raffles Avenue, in downtown Marina Bay. 5-10 mins walk from several attractions such as the Singapore Flier, Marina Bay Sands, ArtScience Museum, Gardens by the Bay and The Esplanade – Theaters on the Bay. Your family can enjoy a meal at the one Michelin star Summer Pavilion.

2. Orchard Road

Orchard Road is an excellent base in Singapore for families, especially if you and your family enjoy shopping, dining, and being in the midst of the city’s energy.

It has a rooftop space, infinity pool, car rentals, and free parking. Family rooms are spacious with 2 large beds. 

Mid-range ($$): Citadines Connect City Centre Singapore, 4-star family-friendly hotel located in the center of Singapore, close to Orchard Gateway, Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station, 313@Somerse, and Fort Canning Park. It has an outdoor pool, a garden, 24-hour front desk and luggage storage.

3. Sentosa Island

Sentosa Island is a resort island situated just off the southern coast of Singapore and is a fantastic base for a family holiday. Whether your family enjoys theme parks, water activities, or simply lounging on the beach, Sentosa has something for everyone.

Sentosa is home to a wide range of family-friendly attractions, including Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, Adventure Cove Waterpark, and KidZania Singapore. These attractions offer entertainment for visitors of all ages.

Good for young children, Baby cot comes with a baby pillow and baby blanket. There are free hourly shuttle services to the Harbourfront station MRT/ VivoCity.

Luxury ($$$): W Singapore – Sentosa Cove, 5-star child-friendly hotel located on Ocean Way in Sentosa island. Easy access to many restaurants and the local buses to get around. They have a huge pool, and close to the marina where you can find various shops, cafes and restaurants. The Wonderful Twin is a great option for families of 4.

Mid-range ($$): Village Hotel Sentosa by Far East Hospitality, great 4-star family-friendly hotel located in the middle of Sentosa island, easy access to monorail, Vivo City Mall, S.E.A Aquarium, universal studios, and the beach. The Family interconnecting Rooms are compact and good for families of 4. They have swimming pools for every age.

4. Chinatown

Chinatown is a good choice for families interested in history, local markets, and authentic cuisine. Your family can explore the narrow lanes, visit temples, and soak in the atmosphere of this ethnic enclave.

Mid-range ($$): Oasia Hotel Downtown, Singapore by Far East Hospitality, 4-star family-friendly beautiful  hotel located in Chinatown, walking distance to a lot of places. 10 mins walk to the Maxwell and Chinatown complex food centers. Easy access to Tanjong Pagar MRT station, City Gallery, Red Dot Design Museum, and Sri Mariamman Temple. The Connecting Room is a great place for families of 4.

5. Little India/ Bugis

Easy access to the city center, Little India and China Town. It is compact accommodation but this is Singapore after all.

Mid-range ($$): InterContinental Singapore, an IHG Hotel, 5-star family-friendly accommodation in central Singapore, only a stone’s throw from all the fascinating shops at Bugis. It is directly connected to Bugis Junction Mall and Bugis MRT Station, offer link to the famous Orchard Road
