Where to stay in Seville for first time: 5 Safe areas

Hi guys, on my website, I already wrote an article about staying in Seville without a car (I will put the links to it at the end of this article). In today’s article, I will help you to find the safe places to stay in Seville for first-time visitors and tourists.

I will share with you what I believe are the best and safest areas to stay in Seville for first-timers and tourists, along with a helpful map and areas to avoid. I’ll also share where I stayed in Seville and recommend some of the best hotels in Seville for various budgets.

Before get into the detail of the main topic, let’s look at some facts about Seville:

Seville, also known as Sevilla in Spanish, is a city in southern Spain and the capital of the Andalusia region. It has a long and diverse history, with influences from the Romans, Moors, and Christians.

The city played a significant role in the Age of Exploration during the 15th and 16th centuries when it was a major port for ships traveling to the New World.

It is home to many iconic landmarks, including the Seville Cathedral, which is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, and the Alcazar of Seville, a stunning palace complex. The Giralda, a bell tower of the cathedral, is another famous symbol of the city.

Seville is considered one of the birthplaces of flamenco. You can find numerous flamenco venues and cultural heritage in this art form. The city also hosts the Feria de Abril, a lively celebration featuring flamenco music, dancing, and colorful tents.

Andalusian cuisine is renowned for its delicious flavors. You can enjoy traditional dishes such as gazpacho, salmorejo, and various tapas in the city’s many bars and restaurants.

The Guadalquivir River runs through Seville and has played a crucial role in the city’s history and development. It’s also the setting for many leisure activities, including boat tours.

Seville has a strong tradition of bullfighting, and the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza is one of the most famous bullrings in Spain. Bullfights are held during the city’s April Fair.

Is Seville safe to visit?

Yes, Seville is generally safe for tourists with a low crime rate. But, like any popular tourist destination, petty theft, tourist scams, and pickpocketing can occur, particularly in crowded areas or tourist hotspots. You should alway take care of your belongings and be aware of your surroundings, especially at night.

Seville’s streets are lively at night, and it’s generally safe to explore, but stick to well-lit areas. Avoid walking alone in poorly lit streets and alleys, especially at night.

Where to stay in Seville for the first time?

The best and safest areas to stay in Seville for first-timers and tourists are Santa Cruz, Sevilla Centro, El Arenal, Los Remedios/ Triana, and Macarena. No matter where you stay, always be cautious of pickpocketing, and stay alert, especially in crowded areas and late at night.

Santa Cruz and Sevilla Centro are the most popular areas in Seville for first-timers who want to be close to major attractions and have easy access to amenities.

Santa Cruz is the historic heart of Seville and is known for its narrow, winding streets, colorful buildings, and the famous Alcazar and Seville Cathedral. It’s a great choice for those who want to immerse themselves in Seville’s rich history and culture.

Sevilla Centro, located right next to Santa Cruz, is known for its shopping districts and a lively nightlife scene. You’ll find a wide range of hotels, restaurants, and shops in this area.

El Arenal is a picturesque neighborhood near the Guadalquivir River and close to the bullring and the Torre del Oro. It’s a great option if you want to have a beautiful riverside location with plenty of bars and restaurants.

If you want a more local and authentic experience, you can consider booking your accommodations in the Los Remedios/Triana and Macarena neighborhoods. They also offers more budget-friendly options with easy access to the major attractions.

Los Remedios/Triana are located on the other side of the river from the city center and are known for their local, authentic vibe. Triana, in particular, has a strong connection to flamenco music and ceramics.

Most tourist areas are safe as long as you take common-sense precautions, but it is recommended to avoid booking your accommodation in the areas of Las 3000 Viviendas, Torreblanca, and Los Pajaritos.

During my trip to Seville, I stayed for 3 nights at the Hotel Inglaterra in the city center of Seville. It has a great location, a short walk from Plaza Nueva, the Cathedral, Maestranza Bullring and Giralda Tower. I also had a good breakfast and a comfortable room with views of the city skyline and the cathedral .
