Where to stay in Menorca without a car: 8 Best areas

I love to explore places without a car, and on my website, I cover many topics for car-free travelers. In this article, we will visit Menorca and help you find the best places to stay in Menorca without a car

I will share my recommendations for the top areas to stay in Menorca without a car, along with a helpful map. I’ll also tell you where I stayed in Menorca and suggest the best hotels in Menorca for all budgets.

Menorca is the second-largest of the Balearic Islands, after Mallorca. It is known for its stunning natural beauty, including pristine beaches, clear turquoise waters, and a diverse landscape of hills and valleys.

The capital of Menorca is Mahón (also known as Maó in the local Catalan dialect). Mahón is a picturesque port city with a deep natural harbor.

Menorca was designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1993 due to its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. The island’s ecosystem is well-preserved, and it is home to several endemic species.

Menorcan cuisine is influenced by Mediterranean and Spanish flavors. Some notable dishes include caldereta de langosta (lobster stew), Mahón cheese, and ensaimada (a sweet pastry).

Menorca is accessible by air and sea. The island has an international airport, Mahón Airport, which serves as the primary gateway for visitors. It has two ports, located in Mahón and Ciutadella.

Menorca is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean, and while having a car can be convenient for exploring more remote areas, it’s possible to enjoy the island without one. Some ways to navigate the island without a car include public bus, taxi, walking, biking, ferry, and guided tour.

Menorca has a public bus network that connects many towns and tourist destinations on the island. Bus services can be a cost-effective way to travel between different areas of Menorca.

You can check Torres bus company for buses in the west coast towns such as Ciutadella, Cala en Blanes, Cala en Bosch, and Son Xoriguer. For the buses in the north east coast such as Fornells, Son Parc, Arenal d’en Castell, and Es Grau, you can check Autos Fornells

For the buses between Mahon/Ciutadella, and east coast towns such as Cala Galdana, Son Bou, and Santo Tomas, you can check their schedule at TMSA. There’s only one bus between the airport and Mahon’s bus station, from where you can take another bus to other towns on the island.

Mahon and Ciutadella are the transport hubs of the island, offering buses to most towns and resorts. Other transport hubs are at Alaior, Ferreries and Es Mercadal.

If you’re staying in a town or resort area, walking can be a great way to explore the immediate surroundings. Many attractions, beaches, and restaurants are within walking distance of popular tourist areas.

The island also has a network of hiking trails that allow you to explore the island’s beautiful landscapes on foot. Some popular trails include the Cami de Cavalls, a coastal path that circles the entire island.

You can use a taxi but they can be more expensive than other options, so it’s a good idea to have an idea of the fares and availability. Popular companies are Taxis Mahon in Mahon, and Parada de Taxis in Ciutadella.

Since Menorca is an island, you can take advantage of boats and ferries to visit different coastal areas. This can be a unique way to explore the coastline.

Many tour companies offer guided excursions that cover various parts of the island. These can be a convenient way to see Menorca’s attractions without having to worry about transportation.

Where to stay in Menorca without a car?

The best areas to stay in Menorca without a car are Mahón, Ciutadella de Menorca, Es Castell, Punta Prima, Cala Blanca, Cala en Porter, Arenal d’en Castell, and Son Bou. These areas are accessible by bus/taxi, and offer easy access to attractions, amenities, and beaches on foot.

Mahón and Ciutadella are the most popular areas to stay in Menorca without a car because they are the main towns and transport hubs of the island. The town itself is pedestrian-friendly, and you can explore its attractions on foot. Additionally, you can take day trips to nearby beaches and towns by bus.

On my trip to Menorca, I stayed in Mahón at the Hotel Hevresac Singular & Small, a good value for money hotel with exceptional breakfast. It has a central location close to lots of sights, bars and eateries. Also only a 10 mins walk to the central bus station, where you can get a bus to the rest of the island.
