Where to stay in Malta for families with kids: 5 Best areas

Hi guys, on my website, I already wrote an article about Malta without a car (I will put the link to it at the end of this article). In today’s article, I will help you to find the best places to stay in Malta for families with kids.

I will share with you what I believe are the best areas to stay in Malta for families, along with a map. I’ll also share where I stayed in Malta and recommend some of the best family-friendly hotels for various budgets.

Malta is a small island country in the Mediterranean Sea, located south of Sicily, Italy. It’s known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and beautiful beaches. The capital city is Valletta, which is renowned for its well-preserved Baroque architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Malta has a fascinating history that dates back thousands of years, with influences from various civilizations, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Moors, Normans, Knights of St. John, and British.

Tourism is a significant part of Malta’s economy, with visitors attracted to its historic sites, beautiful coastlines, and vibrant culture. The country is also a popular destination for diving enthusiasts due to its clear waters and abundant marine life.

Is Malta a good place to visit with family?

Yes, Malta is a fantastic destination for a family vacation! With its rich history, beautiful beaches, and numerous family-friendly activities, Malta offers something for everyone.

Your family can explore ancient temples, visit medieval cities like Mdina, enjoy water sports and boat trips, or simply relax on the beach. The small size of the islands also makes it easy to get around and see many different sights during your stay.

Where to stay in Malta for families with kids?

The best areas to stay in Malta for families with kids include Valletta, Bugibba/Qawra, Mellieha, St Julians/Sliema, and Marsaxlokk. These areas provide plenty of family-friendly accommodations for all budgets and preferences.

Valletta is the best area for families who want a central location, with easy access to many historical attractions, including the Grand Master’s Palace and the Upper Barrakka Gardens. Just be mindful that there’s stairs everywhere, it can be challenging for those with strollers.

Mellieha, located in the north of Malta, is known for its beautiful sandy beaches, perfect for families who want a relaxing beach holiday. It’s a quieter area compared to St. Julian’s and Sliema. Nearby attractions include the Popeye Village, Golden Bay, and the Mellieha Bay Aquarium.

Bugibba/Qawra are neighboring towns in the St. Paul’s Bay area offers a range of family-friendly accommodations, restaurants, and entertainment options. There’s also a long promenade perfect for evening walks with kids.

St. Julian’s and Sliema are great bases for families who want central locations and a vibrant atmosphere. They’re well-connected to buses and ferries. While St Julians is the nightlife hub of Malta, families can still enjoy the promenade, boat trips, and visit nearby Valletta.

During my trip to Malta, I traveled as a couple, and stayed at the budget-friendly Osborne Hotel, in Valletta. It had a prime location, in a nice quiet street, close to everything, only a few mins walk from Malta’s St. John’s Cavalier and St. John’s Co-Cathedral. Perfect location near attractions and bus stops.
