Where to stay in Jeju Island without a car: 6 Best areas

In this article, we will look at Where to stay in Jeju Island without a car?, the best areas for car-free travelers and the best hotels for all budget visitors.

Jeju Island is a beautiful destination in South Korea, and while having a car is more convenient, it’s possible to enjoy your visit without one. This island has a relatively well-developed public transportation system that includes buses, taxis, and even some cycling options.

You can reach Jeju Island by air and ferries. The Jeju International Airport has frequent flights from Seoul, Busan, and Daegu. There is a ferry to Jeju Island from cities like Mokpo or Wando on the mainland. This option is less common and takes longer than flying.

Both the airport and the port are located in Jeju City. From the airport, you can take a bus, taxi, hotel’s shuttle to your destination. Bus No. 600 Airport Limousine can take you from the airport to Jeju City, Jungmun, and Seogwipo.

Jeju has an extensive bus network that covers most parts of the island. There are different types of buses, including city buses and intercity buses. You can use city buses to get around within Jeju City and other towns, while intercity buses can take you to different regions of the island.

The Intercity buses run between Jeju City bus terminal and Seogwipo bus terminal, stopping at major tourist attractions. There are:

  • Bus No. 201 runs along the east coast, connecting Jeju City, Seongsan, and Seogwipo.
  • Bus No. 202 runs along the west coast, connecting Jeju City, Gosan, and Seogwipo.

Jeju offers tourist shuttle buses that follow popular routes and visit major tourist attractions. These buses are designed for tourists and can be a convenient way to see the sights.

Taxis are available on Jeju Island. You can use Kakao T App to book taxis. There is no Uber or Grab on Jeju island. While taxi can be more expensive than buses, they are a convenient option, especially if you’re traveling with a group or have a specific destination in mind.

Some areas of Jeju, especially along the coastline, offer bicycle rental services. Cycling can be a fun and eco-friendly way to explore the island at your own pace.

You can also consider booking private tours or excursions. Many tour companies offer guided tours to various attractions, and transportation is typically included.

In Seogwipo, I stayed in Parksunshine Jeju, a popular 3-star hotel, located within a short taxi ride from  Cheonjiyeon Waterfalls, Seogwipo Port and the Lee Jung Seop Street. It is, in my opinion, one of the best places to stay in Seogwipo on Jeju Island, especially for travelers with no car.
