I will share my recommendations for the top areas to stay in Fuerteventura without a car, along with a helpful map. I’ll also tell you where I stayed in Fuerteventura and suggest the best hotels in Fuerteventura for all budgets.

Fuerteventura is the second-largest of the Canary Islands, after Tenerife. It is situated to the south of Lanzarote and to the north of Gran Canaria.

The island is known for its vast sand dunes, volcanic mountains, and pristine beaches. It has a generally arid climate with mild temperatures throughout the year.

Fuerteventura is a popular tourist destination, especially for those seeking sun, sea, and sand. The island’s beaches are a major attraction, and water sports such as windsurfing and kiteboarding are popular due to the consistent trade winds.

It is home to the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park and the Jandía Natural Park, which offer opportunities for hiking and exploring the unique ecosystems.

The local culture is influenced by a mix of Spanish, African, and indigenous Guanche cultures. Traditional music, dance, and festivals are important aspects of the cultural scene.

Corralejo is one of the main tourist towns on the island, located in the north. It’s known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and as a starting point for excursions to Lobos Island.

The former capital of Fuerteventura, Betancuria, is a charming town with historical significance. You can explore the Church of Santa María and the Archaeological Museum.

Can you get around Fuerteventura without a car?

Yes, while having a car can provide more flexibility and convenience in exploring the island, it is still possible to get around without one. Some alternative transportation options include buses, taxis, cycling, walking, and guided tours.

Fuerteventura has a bus network that connects major towns and tourist areas. The bus system is operated by Tiadhe, and you can find schedules and routes on their official website.

You can use taxis in the main towns and tourist areas. However, they can be more expensive than other forms of public transportation.

Some areas in Fuerteventura are relatively flat and suitable for cycling. You can rent bicycles at various locations, and it’s a great way to explore the surroundings at your own pace.

If you’re staying in a town or resort area, many attractions, restaurants, and beaches may be within walking distance. Walking allows you to explore at a leisurely pace and appreciate the local scenery.

Many tour operators on the island offer guided excursions to popular attractions. These tours often include transportation, making it a convenient option for exploring specific areas.
