Where to stay in Barcelona for families with kids: 5 Best areas

Hi guys, on my website, I already wrote an article about safe areas in Barcelona for first-timers and car-free travelers (I will put the links to them at the end of this article). In today’s article, I will help you to find the best places to stay in Barcelona for families with kids.

I will share with you what I believe are the best areas to stay in Barcelona for families, along with a map. I’ll also share where I stayed in Barcelona and recommend some of the best family-friendly hotels for various budgets.

Barcelona is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, known for its rich history, stunning architecture, vibrant culture, and Mediterranean beaches. It is the capital and largest city of Catalonia, an autonomous community in northeastern Spain.

Barcelona is renowned for its impressive architecture, with the works of Antoni Gaudí being particularly famous. The Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló, and La Pedrera (Casa Milà) are some of the iconic landmarks designed by Gaudí.

Popular points of interest in Barcelona include La Rambla, Plaça de Catalunya, Gothic Quarter, Barcelona Cathedral, and Plaça del Rei. The city also boasts several beautiful beaches along the Mediterranean coast, including Barceloneta Beach, which is easily accessible from the city center.

Is Barcelona a good place to visit with family?

Yes, absolutely. Barcelona is a great destination for families. The city offers a rich blend of history, culture, and outdoor activities that can appeal to visitors of all ages.

Your family can explore the city’s stunning architecture, visit various museums and cultural attractions, enjoy the beaches, explore parks and zoos, and try different Catalan and Spanish cuisine.

Where to stay in Barcelona for families with kids?

The best areas to stay in Barcelona for families with kids are Plaça de Catalunya, The Gothic Quarter, Eixample, El Born, and La Barceloneta. These are safe central locations, offering plenty of family-friendly accommodations, and easy access to major sights and public transportation for further exploration.

Plaça de Catalunya is a central hub, making it convenient for transportation. It’s well-suited for families who want easy access to major attractions, shopping, and dining.

The Gothic Quarter is best suited for families who enjoy history, narrow medieval streets, and a lively atmosphere. The Gothic Quarter is rich in history and close to many iconic landmarks.

Eixample is a great base for families who are looking for a more relaxed atmosphere and  proximity to iconic landmarks. This area is known for its wide streets, modernist architecture, and upscale shopping.

El Born is a trendy and historic neighborhood with a bohemian vibe. It’s suitable for families who enjoy art, culture, and a more fashionable atmosphere. The area is home to the Picasso Museum, Parc de la Ciutadella, and trendy boutiques.

La Barceloneta is a great choice for families looking to combine city exploration with beach relaxation. It is a seaside neighborhood with sandy beaches, seafood restaurants, and a relaxed vibe.

During my trip to Barcelona, I traveled as a couple and stayed in the central area at the budget-friendly Catalonia Avinyo. I was an easy walking distance from iconic landmarks, including Barcelona Cathedral. There was lots of  shopping, restaurants, and cafes in its surroundings.
